Calling All Boos and Ghouls: Easy Halloween Crafts for Kids of Every Age

Though it can be a welcome reprieve from the sweltering summer days and an invitation to pull out your favorite cozy sweaters from storage, October can also be a very hectic time for parents. You’re fully in the swing of back-to-school, there’s parent-teacher conferences, and extra-curriculars, and the days are getting shorter, and your to-do lists are getting longer.

It can be scary!

With that in mind, we want to take some of the fear-factor out of your Halloween season, with our hand-picked top 3 favorite crafts. You can make magical memories with your kids, without destroying the house (and your sanity) in the process. No tricks here, only treats.

  1. For the little ghosties: Keep it simple for the littles with crafts that consist primarily of finger paints or construction paper. We love this easy Halloween garland (pro-tip: too little for scissors? you can pre-cut the shapes and just have them assemble) and this super-easy paper chain garland, or these to-die-for finger paint witches and bats! These are especially fun for the little ones because they really can’t mess them up! They’re super easy to make your own, and the focus will just be on creating something fun with their hands, rather than trying to make a masterpiece (although, we think it looks like a masterpiece regardless!). These scream “fridge art hall-o-(ween) fame”.

  1. For the more-grown-up ghouls: If you have slightly older kiddos - not to worry - there is more to Halloween crafts than scooping pumpkin guts! Eeek. Try something a bit more involved or experimental like these tye-dye halloween suncatchers (or these suncatchers made from glow-in-the-dark beads!) – these are especially great for kids who aren’t into all things creepy and crawly. They are festive, but super pretty and on-trend. If you’ve got some less frilly goblins on your hands, try these super cool painted rocks – the only limit is your imagination! – or these Halloween-themed soap carvings (just make sure to supervise the knife-handling, of course).

  2. For the whole (skeleton) crew: Fun for the whole family without leaving the house? Cannot recommend a haunted gingerbread decorating contest more! These are just about everywhere now and should be super easy to find - like this one from Target or this one from Amazon. Make a night out of it by popping on a spooky (kid-friendly, of course) movie and making the decorating a little friendly competition. Winner takes the cake … errr cookie, in this case.

Don’t let the idea of a family craft night spook you. Halloween is such a fun and festive time of year, and it’s always a time of candy, fun, and family memories. No matter which crafts you take a stab at this Halloween, we know you and your little goblins and ghouls will find these crafts eerie-sistable.
